How to get there
Naseby Apartments (formerly Naseby Lodge) are located on the corner of Derwent Street and Oughter Street, with vehicle access from Oughter Street. The official address is 26 Derwent Street, Naseby. The property is a short walk from the centre of town, the forest trails and the Naseby Information Centre.
- Naseby is around 15 kilometres, or about a 10-minute drive, from Ranfurly.
- It is roughly one and a half hours drive from Dunedin, and around two hours from Queenstown or Oamaru, depending on your route and stops.
- For navigation, search for "Naseby Apartments" or use the street address above. Look for the sign at the corner of Derwent and Oughter Streets.
- Vehicle access and parking are from Oughter Street. There is no covered parking, but there is plenty of on-site parking for cars, motorbikes and small trailers.
Before you set off
- Check your booking confirmation for apartment details, check-in times and any special instructions.
- In winter, allow extra time for frost or snow on the roads and carry warm clothing in the car.
- Consider shopping for your main groceries and fuel in Ranfurly or another larger town before you drive up to Naseby.
- If you will be arriving late at night, a small torch or phone light can be useful when unloading the car.
Check-in and keys
Standard check-in time is from 3:00 pm. Check-out is by 10:00 am, so we have time to prepare the apartments for the next guests.
- Before your stay you will receive a confirmation email with your apartment number, parking information and simple self check-in instructions.
- On arrival, you can go directly to your apartment. There is a site plan inside the area for easy navigation.
- If you expect to arrive earlier than 3:00 pm, please let us know in advance so we can advise what is possible. No need to contact us about late check-ins.
Arriving without a car or from the Rail Trail
If you are cycling the Otago Central Rail Trail or arriving in Ranfurly by bus or shuttle, you can arrange a local transfer to and from Naseby Apartments.
Our preferred local provider is Naseby Transfers, who operate shuttles between Ranfurly, Naseby, Danseys Pass and nearby towns. We recommend booking ahead, especially on busy weekends.
If you would like help coordinating a pick up, just mention this when you book or contact us once your travel plans are confirmed.
We aim to give you plenty of space and privacy, while staying close enough to help if needed.

Wi-Fi and mobile coverage
Free Wi-Fi is available in every apartment. You will find your network name and password inside your apartment.
Mobile coverage in and around Naseby can vary between providers. If your phone supports it, we recommend turning on Wi-Fi calling while you stay with us.
Heating, cooling and ventilation
Naseby has warm, dry summers and cold, crisp winters. Each apartment has a heat pump providing climate control for heating and cooling, a heated bathroom floor, plus good insulation to keep you comfortable all year round.
- Use the heat pump remote in the living area to set your preferred temperature.
- In winter, keep windows and external doors closed while the heating is on to avoid condensation and heat loss.
- In summer, opening windows in the evening can help bring in cool mountain air.
Housekeeping, linen and rubbish
Your apartment will be fully cleaned and prepared before you arrive. For longer stays we can arrange extra housekeeping or linen changes on request.
- Fresh bed linen and towels are provided at the start of your stay, with extra towels available if needed.
- You are welcome to use the guest laundry to wash clothes, cycling gear or ski wear during your stay.
- Please use the bins provided for general waste and recycling and avoid flushing wipes or sanitary products.

All apartments at Naseby Apartments are fully self-contained. You can cook, relax and work to your own rhythm, without needing to share kitchens or bathrooms with other guests.

Kitchen and dining
- Fully equipped kitchens with cooktop, microwave, air fryer, fridge, kettle and toaster.
- Crockery, glassware, pots, pans and utensils for everyday meals.
- Basic pantry items such as tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper and cooking oil to get you started.
- Dining table or dining area in every apartment.
A simple continental breakfast is available on request - just select it when you book.
Relaxing and working
- Comfortable lounge seating with room to stretch out after a day on the trails or in the snow.
- Smart TV with access to streaming apps such as Netflix and YouTube, plus Freeview channels.
- Free Wi-Fi suitable for streaming and video calls.
If you need to work during your stay, all apartments have enough space to set up a laptop at the table.

- Guest laundry - shared laundry room for washing and drying clothes and outdoor gear during your stay.
- BBQ and outdoor seating - self-serviced outdoor BBQ area with seating for relaxed evenings and simple group meals.
- Open lawn areas for children - space to run around and play under supervision.
- Bike and e-bike storage - e-bike charging in a lockable shed, with space to store bikes securely. Please bring your own bike lock if you prefer.
- Conference centre and licensed restaurant for events - on-site spaces that can be opened by prior arrangement for groups, retreats and small conferences.

Naseby is a small, peaceful town, so services are close but limited compared with larger centres. Opening hours can change with the seasons, public holidays and school holidays.
Food and groceries in Naseby
- Naseby General Store on Leven Street offers everyday groceries, fresh bread and milk and other basics. Hours vary by day and season, so check the latest information when you arrive.
- Black Forest Cafe on Derwent Street serves coffee, breakfasts, baking and light meals on most days.
- The Royal Hotel is the local pub and restaurant, popular for hearty meals and a relaxed atmosphere after a day outside.
Groceries, fuel and services in Ranfurly
Ranfurly is the nearest larger service town, around 15 kilometres from Naseby. Many guests choose to stop there on the way for groceries and fuel.

- Banking services via local ATM.
- Medical centre and Maniototo Hospital for non-urgent care.
Weather and road conditions
Naseby sits at around 600 metres above sea level. Summers are usually warm and dry, while winters are cold, with hard frosts and occasional snow.
- In winter, roads around Naseby can be icy early in the morning and after dark. Drive carefully and allow extra time.
- Bring warm layers, hats and gloves in winter, even if you are coming from milder parts of New Zealand.
- In summer, sun protection and water bottles are important for walks and rides in the forest.
- Check weather forecasts and any road updates before you travel, especially if you are planning to use Danseys Pass or other alpine roads.
These simple guidelines help us keep Naseby Apartments comfortable for you, other guests and our neighbours.
Respect for other guests
- Please keep noise to a reasonable level at all times, especially in outside areas and on decks.
- We ask for quiet across the property in the late evening and early morning so everyone can rest.
- Parties and large gatherings are not suitable for Naseby Apartments unless arranged with us in advance.
- Only the guests listed on your booking should stay overnight in your apartment.
Smoking and vaping
- All apartments and indoor spaces are strictly non-smoking.
- If you smoke or vape, please use the designated outdoor smoking area and dispose of cigarette butts considerately.

Pets
Naseby Apartments are intended to be a relaxed, pet-friendly environment, but we do need to manage pets carefully so that all guests stay comfortable.
- Please contact us before booking if you plan to bring a dog or other pet.
- Pets must be kept under control at all times and are not allowed on beds or soft furnishings.
- Please clean up after your pet around the property and in the town.

Safety and environmental care
- Please use the BBQ and any outdoor fire facilities safely and never leave them unattended.
- During periods of high fire risk in Central Otago, local fire restrictions may apply. Always follow current guidance.
- Do not use candles or open flames inside the apartments.
- Be careful not to hang wet gear directly on heaters or curtain rails, as this can damage fittings.
- When leaving for the day or checking out, switch off heaters, lights and appliances that you are not using.
Check-out
- Check-out time is by 10:00 am unless we have agreed otherwise.
- Please follow the check-out instructions in your welcome information for where to leave keys and how to secure your apartment.
- Before you leave, check wardrobes, drawers, bathroom and kitchen for any personal items.
- You do not need to do a full clean, but please wash any dishes you have used and, if your group has more than one apartment, return them to the correct kitchen before you leave.
